Repairs

Clare Swan Designs jewelry is sturdy enough to withstand everyday wear, but please handle gently.

Although uncommon, if your jewelry malfunctions or breaks within 2 weeks of purchase, I will repair the same at no extra cost. Please contact me and send a photo of the piece thats needs repair. Please ship the piece back to me. In case the piece cannot be repaired, I will refund the full cost of the item.

After 2 weeks, the jewelry has been worn and unfortunately, I cannot be responsible for how it is treated. I am happy to repair it for you for a fee. Please contact me for details.

General Care Instructions

Jewelry should be put on after products like lotion, sunscreen, perfume & hairspray. Good rule of thumb: Last on, First off.

Care of Sterling Silver

Sterling Silver tarnishes from time to time and will need to be cleaned periodically. Use non-abrasive silver tarnish removal products like a silver polishing cloth, careful to avoid gemstones and pearls. The anti-tarnish dip cleaners are generally good for most items, but can damage pearls and some gemstones. Also, if there is any oxidation on your item (on purpose!), dip cleaners WILL remove that as well, so best to use a polishing cloth for those items instead.

Care of Gold Filled

Gold Filled pieces rarely tarnish, but if worn on the body it can accumulate oils & other residue from normal wear. Clean with mild soapy water & a soft cloth.

Care of "Vermeil Style" Gold Plate

Gold Plate items are best stored separately in a soft jewelry pouch when not wearing to avoid scratching. Avoid contact with Chlorine or Chlorine-based products (commonly found in pools & hot tubs). Clean with jewelry cleanser, soap & water, or commercial window cleaner (such as Windex). Use a soft cloth to clean the item, rinse with water and allow to dry completely.

Care of Bronze

Bronze Bronze is a beautiful metal and is made from 90% copper and 10% tin.  Bronze will tarnish over time, which can be removed with a polishing cloth.  Bronze jewelry should be put on after products like lotion, sunscreen, perfume & hairspray. Good rule of thumb: Last on, First off.

Why I Use Sterling Silver

Sterling silver wire, clasps and chain

I design and create jewelry with Sterling Silver because it has a high content of silver (92.5% - .0925), holds up beautifully over time, does not wear off (not plated), and can be easily cleaned (see care of Sterling Silver above).

Why I Use Gold Filled

Gold filled wire, clasps, components and chain

I use gold-filled wire and components because of its natural shine and gold luster without the expense of real gold. It also contains 5% gold by weight and the gold is bonded to the base metal (jeweler’s brass) so it won’t wear off. It can last for years without tarnishing with proper care (see Care of Gold Filled above) and the gold will not wear off.

“Vermeil Style” Gold Plate

A few items in my shop are made of “vermeil style” gold plate components. While gold plate has a bad rep as wearing off over time, the components I use have plating of 40 micro inches of 98.5% pure gold plated over sterling silver with a fine layer of nickel in between. I have found this to be extremely durable and beautiful which is why I use these components in my designs.

Anklet Sizing Tips

  • Decide whether you want to wear it above or below your ankle bone.
  • Measure around your ankle at that point.
  • I add a 1" extender so you'll have some room to play with.
  • If you need a different size (most of my anklets are between 9 1/2 - 10 1/2"), message me and I can adjust them for you!
